October 15-18, 2010 Gurudev's Birthday Retreat in Paradise
Embark on a journey into that magical placewithin as we come together to celebrate
and honor our dear Gurudev on his birthday. We will be staying in an 18th
century great house, Good Hope, nestled majestically on top of a hill
surrounded by lush mountains with a river flowing through bamboo forests below.
We will be doing our yoga practice amidst the hummingbirds, tropical flowers,
the morning mist as it flows through the valley, the setting sun and the rising
moon. There will be lectures in the gardens under the coconut fronds, where you
will naturally relax in the beauty of nature surrounding you.
In
Jamaica 400 children are born each year with heart disease, a further 2% will
develop rheumatic heart disease that infects the valves that then need to be
repaired or replaced. The money we raise will go to Chain of Hope Jamaica to
perform the 7 most urgent and critical surgeries by the local Jamaica team. The
funding supports consumables and outside expertise that are needed for the
surgery.
"Laughter
is the best medicine." This is a phrase we have heard from many. But,
have
you ever wondered how literal this saying really is? Is laughter really
the
best medicine? Why waste my energy laughing about it when there really
isn't
anything to laugh about?
You might
wonder what mind power has to do
with fitness, health and weight loss, after all, isn't it about
what you eat and how much you exercise?
Eating and
exercise are certainly two thirds of the equation, but the remaining component
is in your head, literally!
Motivation,
desire, expectation and visualization are key concepts that, when understood
and utilized, can be powerful ammunition that will accelerate your results.
Maintaining or renewing your motivation to exercise can be a fleeting
thing. It's all too easy to become discouraged. Now I want
to describe how mind power can drastically affect the speed and results of your
fitness/weight loss program.
1) Pets. Give the gift
of unconditional love... Numerous studies have shown that companion animals --
whether cats or dogs -- are good for our health. They can help lower blood
pressure as well as the level of stress hormones in the body, and they also
encourage social interaction. For the right mother, adopting an animal can be
the ultimate Mother's Day gift. Studies indicate that owning an animal reduces
stress, petting lowers blood pressure, and [a companion animal] is company, it's
a member of the family, and its unconditional love.
